Daily Prophet: When did you first realise that Hermione Granger is the one for you?
Malfoy: At the Yule Ball. I remember it vividly. She was in this, periwinkle dress… She was just - nine years later and I still don’t have the words to properly describe how beautiful she was that night (laughs). When she walked down the stairs; it was then, exactly then - that I knew I was in trouble.

“Draco…”
He ignored her and glanced around the pillars again, down the hall to classroom doors that would open in minutes and emit a hundred students, all heading to the Great Hall for dinner. Right past where he and Granger stood. They needed to move. Now.
“Just hurry up, Granger. We need to get back to the Room before—”
“Draco…” she said again, cutting across him, and this time her voice had an edge to it.
“What?” he said, turning to face her. The locket lay open in her hands. Inside, Draco saw a tiny folded slip of paper wedged into one of the places where a picture would normally have been. “I don’t understand. Is it a Horcrux or isn’t it?”
“I… I don’t think it is.” She eased the paper free of the locket and unfolded it with trembling fingers. Her eyes scanned the scribbled words, then she murmured, “R.A.B.”
“Come again?” Draco smoothed his hair back from his face. Just watching her bemused expression settle slowly into pain and disappointment was maddening; he snatched the note from her and read it for himself:
To the Dark Lord
I know I will be dead long before you read this but I want you to know that it was I who discovered your secret. I have stolen the real Horcrux and intend to destroy it as soon as I can.
I face death in the hope that when you meet your match you will be mortal once more.
R.A.B.Draco looked up at Granger as his heart plummeted into his stomach.
“You’ve got to be kidding me.”

Isolation by Bex-chan, chapter 38: Again
Draco was studying her closely from the other side of the room, watching her chest heave and her hands shake with emotion. He wondered why they were still so far apart. “You didn’t have to Petrify me,” he said slowly. “That was your choice.”
“That was the choice you drove me to!” she yelled, and she could feel her eyes beginning to sting as she tried to smother a frustrated whine with the back of her hand. “I won’t do that again. I won’t. That was…horrible, and I knew you’d try to stop me again, and I…saying goodbye just doesn’t work for us.”
“So what, you were just going to disappear?” he asked.
“No, of course not. I was going to leave you a note.”
“Oh, a note?” he remarked sarcastically. “Excellent! How fucking thoughtful of you!”
“Dammit, Draco, what else was I supposed to do?” She could taste tears at the corners of her mouth. “I can’t win, can I? What can I do?”
”Stay here!”
“NO! When are you going to get it into your head? I. Am. Leaving! And there is nothing you can do about it! Why can’t you just accept that?”
”BECAUSE I LOVE YOU!” he blurted heedlessly, his face crumpling up in complete agony, and Hermione fell into an awestruck silence.
